About the site
Being an early-career researcher means being on the move. This is reflected of course in physical location, but also in online representation: While universities generally provide information about employees and an email address, these are as temporary as the employment contracts.
A common is to supplement university websites with profiles in social media, offering a more lasting form of online identity. I find this to be an uncomfortable solution on a good day, and an unacceptable one on a bad one. This website is my response to the challenge of finding a more constant online hub for myself, that I am in charge of and that cannot be taken over by some billionaire.
I made this website from scratch, based on a limited talent for web technologies and design. As a result the site might not be the most beautiful thing in the world, but at least it's something original. I am inspired by the small web movement, as I believe reducing the (often unnecessary) footprint of digital services should be a priority for reasons of both environmentalism and privacy.
While I have for the most part written the site myself, I benefit from a few third party technologies. The blog is powered by #Seppo, and can be followed from Mastodon and similar social web services at @stein@brekke.it. The text you're currently reading, along with other long-form content I publish, was written in Markdown and is converted to web-friendly HTML using Parsedown. Whenever it's relevant, code snippets are highlighted in these posts with the help of Prism.
I might get the source code of the website up on GitHub at some point, more out of principle than a suspicion that anyone might be interested in actually using it. If for whatever reason you want to get site like this one up and running don't hesitate to get in touch, as I'll be happy to help.
